Man of the Match Winner vs Livingston

Saturday’s impressive 4-1 win over Livingston marked the start of the new Hibernian Supporters ‘Man of the Match’ initiative, giving fans the chance to choose their player of the day by voting following the final whistle.

Each vote automatically initiates a £1 payment with votes collated and a Man of the Match chosen by the fans. There is also a cash prize for one lucky voter, which on Saturday totalled £250, with Will Wallace walking away with the winnings at the first opportunity.

We caught up with Will following the first team’s trip to the Tony Macaroni Arena to get his thoughts on the new initiative and Saturday’s match in general.

“I was very surprised to win the prize money. I was happy enough to just get involved and I completely forgot about the draw until I was contacted late on Saturday night. It was one of the better Saturdays I’ve had recently for sure!”

With the official Man of the Match often chosen by the club’s sponsors, the Hibernian Supporters vote allows fans to get involved directly after watching the men in green and white on the television and – hopefully sooner rather than later – after watching matches in the flesh.

“This competition gives fans the chance to directly praise the players that they thought had a great performance. It also helps the club. It’s only £1 per vote so I hope the number that take part increases throughout the season.

After taking home the prize money at the weekend, Will hopes to repeat the feat following the team’s trip to Tannadice on Tuesday evening: “Obviously the chance to win some cash adds to the fun! I’m going for the double on Tuesday.”

With an impressive victory in Livingston marking two wins from two in the Scottish Premiership, Will was pleased with the performance against a very capable team.

“I was really impressed with Hibs’ attacking football in the first half, there were some fantastic team goals too. Livi upped their game in the second half but the team defended really well and we looked strong at the back.

“We were unfortunate with the penalty against us as it was very soft. But it was a fantastic result. Much better than I expected.”

As we look to make it maximum points from three matches in Dundee tomorrow, we’ll keep our fingers crossed that Will’s good fortune carries over from the weekend. He says he fancies our chances: “It’ll be a tough game but I reckon 2-1 to us.”

The Hibernian Supporters Man of the Match vote will be live following the full-time whistle tomorrow evening and will run until 10pm on Tuesday.

All votes will cost £1, with contributors able to enter as many times as they like giving them a better chance of winning the cash prize, which will again be set at a minimum of £250.

Please note while multiple entries to the prize draw are possible, player votes will only be counted once.
